About Us: Our Mission

The Office of Multicultural Affairs is part of the Division of Student Affairs. It provides opportunities for comprehensive, interactive developmental programs for students that increase cultural awareness and respect for differences. The program also enhances the ability to appreciate one’s own cultural identity within a multicultural society. UNCG students can have a combination of developmental experiences that directly relate to cultural diversity to broaden understanding and to improve competence level for educating others on differences. The program allows multiple “hands-on” and practical opportunities for students to empower themselves and others to make a visible and positive difference and to have an increased level of sensitivity to diversity issues on UNCG’s campus community.

Our Mission

The Office of Multicultural Affairs, an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs, bases its philosophy on inclusion — fostering recognition and respect for the voices of all students. The Office contributes to the University’s academic mission in providing student-centered programs that promote awareness of and respect for cultural diversity and offer opportunities to provoke thought and expand cross-cultural and inter-cultural knowledge. The Office strives to contribute to a community in which all students are empowered to recognize and act on one’s social responsibility in relation to domestic and global issues. The Office also offers advocacy, programming and support systems to encourage students to realize the highest level of their potential, particularly as it pertains to the University’s retention and graduation efforts of underrepresented student populations.
